Toronto trade Phaneuf for Richards + Toffoli.

Richards can than work with Toronto medical staff on when he would be ready to be taken of off LTIR.

Boston picks should do the same.

Thankfully, the Leafs are now refraining from giving out the type of No Trade, and No Movement clauses that were given out when Sundin was a player. Proper asset management means not handcuffing your ability to secure some value for expiring ones who don't fit into the teams long term plans.

In a current example, if Tampa doesn't re-sign Stamkos, or get his permission for a trade in the event he doesn't want to, they could end up like Leaf management in the days of the Muskoka Five....with their Johnson's in their hands wondering what went wrong.
